Who Is Jesus Christ? (Biblical Identity)

Jesus Christ is the eternal Word (Logos) who was with God and was God (John 1:1), the Creator of all things (Colossians 1:16), the Son of God who came in the flesh to reveal the Father (John 1:14, 18), the Savior of mankind through His sacrifice (John 3:16), and the future King of the Kingdom of God who will rule the earth (Revelation 11:15). He is both fully divine and truly human—the central figure of the entire Bible.

Who Is Jesus Christ According to the Bible?

Introduction

Few questions are more important than this: Who is Jesus Christ?

Many today see Him as a teacher, a prophet, or a moral example. Others view Him as a distant religious figure. But the Bible presents a far deeper and more powerful truth.

Understanding the true identity of Jesus Christ is essential—because who He is determines everything about salvation, obedience, and the Kingdom of God.

1. Jesus Christ Is the Word Who Was With God—and Was God

The Bible does not begin Jesus’ story in Bethlehem. It begins in eternity.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)

Jesus existed before His human birth as the Word (Logos)—a divine Being who was with God the Father.

“All things were made through Him.” (John 1:3)

Jesus is not a created being. He is:

  • The Creator
  • The Spokesman of God
  • The One who later became flesh (John 1:14)

2. Jesus Christ Is the God of the Old Testament

Scripture reveals that the Being who interacted with humanity in the Old Testament was the same One who became Jesus Christ.

“That Rock was Christ.” (1 Corinthians 10:4)

This means:

  • The One who spoke to Moses
  • The One who gave the Law at Sinai
  • The One who led Israel

Was Jesus Christ before His human birth.

He is the divine Being who:

  • Walked with Abraham
  • Spoke through the prophets
  • Delivered Israel

3. Jesus Christ Became Flesh to Save Humanity

At a specific moment in history, the Word became human:

“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” (John 1:14)

Jesus Christ:

  • Was born of a woman
  • Lived a sinless life
  • Faced real temptation
  • Fully experienced human life

Why?

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3)

He came to:

  • Pay the penalty for sin
  • Reconcile humanity to God
  • Open the way to eternal life

4. Jesus Christ Is the Messiah (Anointed King)

The Old Testament foretold a coming Messiah—a descendant of David who would rule and deliver God’s people.

Jesus fulfilled these prophecies:

  • Born in the line of David
  • Declared the Kingdom of God
  • Confirmed by miracles and resurrection

“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)

“Christ” means Anointed One—the promised King.

5. Jesus Christ Is Alive Today and Reigning

Jesus did not remain in the grave.

“God raised Him from the dead.” (Acts 2:24)

He is now:

  • Seated at the right hand of God
  • Acting as High Priest
  • Preparing to return as King of kings

“To Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom.” (Daniel 7:14)

6. Jesus Christ Will Return to Establish the Kingdom of God

Jesus’ mission is not finished.

“This same Jesus… will so come in like manner.” (Acts 1:11)

At His return, He will:

  • Establish the Kingdom of God on earth
  • Rule with righteousness
  • Bring peace and justice to the world

Why This Matters

Understanding who Jesus truly is changes everything.

He is not just:

  • A teacher
  • A philosopher
  • A motivational figure

He is:

  • The Creator
  • The Savior
  • The coming King

And His identity demands a response.

“Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46)

Conclusion

The Bible reveals Jesus Christ as:

  • The eternal Word
  • The God of the Old Testament
  • The Messiah
  • The Savior of humanity
  • The soon-coming King

To know Jesus Christ correctly is to understand the foundation of true Christianity.
